El Dr. Amadeu Carceller Guillamet cuenta con una extensa experiencia en la cirugía de la catarata y el glaucoma. En la cirugía de la catarata su principal objetivo es implantar la lente intraocular ideal para obtener el máximo rendimiento visual de la intervención quirúrgica, basándose en las necesidades del paciente y las características ópticas de su ojo. Pionero en la implantación de lentes tóricas para la compensación del astigmatismo, trabaja con lentes trifocales, de foco extendido o monofocales de la mayoría de fabricantes. En la cirugía del glaucoma su principal objetivo es minimizar riesgos buscando la cirugía menos agresiva que consiga los niveles de control tensional deseables según el grado de lesión glaucomatosa del paciente. Es experto en cirugía de trabeculectomía, cirugía de esclerectomía profunda no penetrante, implantes de dispositivos de drenaje, cirugía con láser diodo, implantes trabeculares mínimamente invasivos como el iStent inject del que es usuario desde el 2010, iTrack, etc).

El Dr. Carceller ha sido el director del Servicio de Oftalmología del Hospital Quirónsalud Barcelona del 2008 al 2020, cuando pasa a centrarse más en la actividad asistencial y en crear la unidad de ensayos clínicos. Fue adjunto del Departamento de Glaucoma del Hospital Universitario Vall d’Hebrón de Barcelona, actualmente en excedencia. Fue adjunto y jefe de servicio del Hospital Sagrat Cor de Barcelona.

Experiencia
  • 2008-Present: Hospital Quirón Barcelona. Head of the Ophthalmology Department from 2008 to 2021. Glaucoma and Anterior Segment/Cataract specialist from 2008 to present.
  • 2006-September 2012: Consultant Ophthalmologist as Glaucoma specialist at Hospital de la Vall d’Hebron, Barcelona. Since September 2012 in exceedance.
  • 1999-2006: Hospital Universitari Sagrat Cor, Barcelona. Consultant Ophthalmologist Cataract and glaucoma specialist from 1999 to 2006. Head of the Ophthalmology Department from 2002 to 2006.

  • Principal Investigator at Hospital de la Vall d’Hebron of a multicenter Pilot Study about a new glaucoma surgical implant (Gold Shunt). Closed study. Study granted by the Catalan Ophthalmological Society.
  • Principal investigator in the Phase IV study: "A 2-year, multicenter, double-masked, randomized, parallel study of the safety of LUMIGAN® 0.1 mg/mL compared with LUMIGAN® 0.3 mg/mL in patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension". Protocol number 192024-054. Study already closed.

  • Principal investigator in the Phase III Study: "A prospective, double-masked, randomized, multicenter, active- controlled, parallel-group,
  • 6-month study assessing the safety and ocular hypotensive efficacy of PG324 Ophthalmic Solution compared to GANFORT® (bimatoprost 0.03%/timolol 0.5%) Ophthalmic Solution in subjects with elevated intraocular pressure (MERCURY 3)". Protocol number PG324-CS303. Study already closed.

Titulación
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the Universitat de Barcelona (1988-1993). Degree awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science in 1993.
  • Specialization in Ophthalmology. Training done at Hospital de Sant Pau, Barcelona (January 1995-December 1998) as part of the Spanish residency training (MIR Programme).
  • Research Sufficiency awarded by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1997.
  • Exam of the International Council of Ophthalmology, "The Basic Science Assessment in Ophthalmology including Optics and Refraction" passed on May 2007.

MAIN FIELDS OF INTEREST


As ophthalmic surgeon I have plenty of experience performing most of the glaucoma surgeries (trabeculectomy, non penetrating deep-sclerectomy, drainage devices, trabecular iStent implants, goniosinequiolysis, iTrack canaloplasty, XEN implant, cyclophotocoagulation) and Anterior Segment surgeries (Cataract surgery with special intererest in toric and multifocal IOLs, ICL, Artisan-Artiflex lenses for aphaquia, pterygium surgery with conjunctival autograft, IOLs explantation surgeries, basic oculoplastic surgeries).

I trained ophthtalmology residents at Hospital de la Vall d’Hebron during their Glaucoma rotation. Four of them have became Glaucoma Specialists as well.

I have written three book chapters (nanoftalmos, cataract surgery in glaucoma, minimally invasive glaucoma Surgery: iStent), given over 50 scientific presentations in local and international Ophthalmological Meetings and have won a first place oral communication award (Yag Iridectomy in Pigmentary glaucoma, 2007) and a first place video award (iStent implantation technique, 2011) in the Catalan Ophthalmology Society congress. I have been the director of an annual wetLab cataract surgery course focused on solving complications at Alcon-Spain from 2005 to 2016. I have coorganized and participated in many Glaucoma Courses and symposiums, as well as in live Surgery congresses and virtual congresses.

Published as co-author the article "Prospective, randomized study of one, two, or three trabecular bypass stents in open angle glaucoma subjects on topical hypotensive medication" in Clinical Ophthalmology 2015:9. And the article "Long-term titrated IOP control with one, two, or three trabecular micro-bypass stents in open-angle glaucoma subjects on topical hypotensive medication: 42-month outcomes" in Clinical Ophthalmology 2018:1.
