Seven out of ten injuries that occur skiing can be avoided with good technique
A good learning of the technique before practicing skiing avoids seven out of ten injuries, as the specialist of the Knee Unit in the area of Orthopedic and Traumatological Surgery of Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja, Dr. Fernando Jordá recalls. Most of these injuries are due to sprains in the joints and will depend on the discipline we practice, "since in alpine skiing the injuries tend to be centered on knees due to sudden turns, in the practice of snow the most frequent injuries are in dolls and forearm, "says the specialist.
In the face of any type of accident, Dr. Jordá "performed a self-check on the areas that hurt us the most, because it can happen that a contusion at the time of the accident has no symptoms and it is not long before we begin to present the limitations. Tips to avoid injuries
Skiing is a sport that requires an excellent physical form and a refined technique, so a previous preparation is necessary. Another of the main factors when it comes to avoiding injuries is fatigue. "Most injuries occur at the end of the day where fatigue decreases attention and we present greater muscle fatigue," says Dr. Carratalá. The specialist recommends relaxing musculature and joints from time to time.
Finally, Dr. Carratalá reminds us to avoid the practice of this sport in adverse environmental situations and avoid unknown and unmarked terrains, in addition to always wearing helmets to avoid head injuries.
Conservative meniscus surgery
