Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital has announced the implementation of the humanised caesarean section as part of its medical assistance protocols for pregnant women at the final stage of pregnancy. "The great majority of women face childbirth with fear of what is to come and how everything will develop, as this is one of the most important times of their lives. This uncertainty becomes increased when a caesarean section is required, as a surgical procedure is involved. Today, we are proud to be able to offer the humanised caesarean, as this optional procedure offers the same acquired benefits and the same good praxis as natural birth", explains the Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit of Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital, Doctor Isabel María Blanco Herráez.

The procedure of humanising the caesarean section was thought out to create a comfortable and friendly environment where the mother-to-be becomes the main player of this special moment when she welcomes her baby into the world. The expert highlights that in order to do so, it is essential to have highly involved professionals accompanying the mother along the process: "the main difference in comparison to a conventional caesarean section is the presence of the partner in the room, thus reducing the stress of the mother, who can share this unique experience with the person she wishes. Another specially valued moment is the moment in which the mother is offered the possibility of being the first one to receive her baby as he comes out of her uterus and to place him on her chest to offer skin contact. This is a wonderful moment that creates a family bond between the mother and the new-born. Additionally, should the baby want to be fed, the mother can start her breast-feeding in the same room".

In Doctor Blanco Herráez’s view, humanised caesarean section is an ideal option in medical situations where a natural birth is not possible. "Our first and preferred option is for childbirth is to take place naturally, but there are circumstances where we must choose to make a caesarean section due to pathological reasons, a bad positioning of the baby or, for example, when the dilation stage is interrupted and induction cannot be completed. In these cases, our members of staff have been trained and have the skills necessary to use this new caesarean technique that is different from the colder more conventional method, where the mother does not get involved".

Restructuration of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit of the Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital

The addition of the humanised caesarean section to the set of procedures of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit of the Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital derives from the recent arrival of Doctor Isabel María Blanco Herráez as the Head of this Unit.

Coming from the Jiménez Díaz Trust (belonging to the Quirónsalud group), Doctor Blanco Herráez has vast experience in the medical field. Her professional career stands out specially in the areas of minimally-invasive surgery, gynaecological endoscopy, hysteroscopy and pathology of the lower genital tract, of which she is a specialist.

"I have joined the medical team of the Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital with great enthusiasm and with the purpose of continuing to work on a model of excellence, which is currently a reference on the Costa del Sol. I believe we have all the necessary elements to continue to improve. I have met an extraordinary team of professionals (gynaecologists, midwifes, nurses, anaesthetists...) who are committed to patient care. This is completed with the new facilities that have been recently opened for the first time, and add extra quality value to our work. My goal is to continue progressing and adding value to this project" she highlights.
