The objective is to evaluate the personal circumstances of each patient, and to follow up on the different processes of weight loss with specific intervention therapeutic programs in the treatment of obesity, providing the patient with strategies in the modification of the alimentary behavior, adherence to medical treatments, and care in those psychopathologies that may occur in a manner associated with obesity, all to achieve the optimal evolution of the treatment from its beginning until discharge from the patient.

Metabolic surgery for adolescents

Classically, this surgery was indicated for patients who met the aforementioned BMI criteria and comorbidities between 18 and 65-70 years (according to the expected benefit in terms of the resolution of associated diseases). However, there is enough proven experience at a national and global level to be able to indicate surgery in patients who meet the aforementioned criteria and are between 16 and 18 years of age with the paternal-maternal consent or the corresponding tutor.

It is reasonable to consider the possibility of this surgery once bone maturation has been completed (between 12 and 16 years according to race and country of origin) and, above all, to demonstrate the patient's ability to understand the procedure and its limitations, and to have with the support in their environment to achieve the greatest therapeutic adherence and the highest probability of long-term success.
