Memory and Cognitive Disorder

The main goal of this unit is to study the patient from multiple angles of the disease: neurological, neuropsychological, neurophysiological, neuroradiological and neurosurgical, among others, in order to establish a rigorous diagnosis. Few hospitals in Spain have such a comprehensive multidisciplinary team like this, which works together in order to detect early cases of the disease –to allow early initial treatment to delay its progress– and to differentiate those with a treatable cause, such as chronic adult hydrocephalus.

100% patients diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease would benefit from a multidisciplinary assessment that would reveal the existence of other types of diseases with very different prognoses, such as chronic adult hydrocephalus, for which there is an effective treatment; which in some cases is associated with Alzheimer's disease.

There is also a need to establish a differential diagnosis with those cognitive disorders that appear as a consequence of other diseases, such as cerebrovascular accidents, infections or metabolic abnormalities which have a specific approach and a very different evolution.
