- Comprehensive Diagnosis of the Couple
Based on the particular case, several tests are done on the women: a blood test to know her hormonal status, a review of the menstrual cycles to determine whether they are regular, an ultrasound to check the condition of her ovaries, a contrast x-ray to find out the patency of the fallopian tubes (hysterosalpingogram), etc.
A seminogram of the man is done to study the quantity and quality of the sperm. In some cases, additional tests may be proposed such as FISH study in sperm or karyotype.
Once a diagnosis for both partners of the couple is proposed, a treatment plan will be recommend to them for maximum efficiency.
- Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD).
This technique allows to genetically diagnose embryos before transfer to the uterus. It can be applied to couples who are carriers of genetic diseases in order to prevent the transmission of the disease to their offspring, to infertile couples from the in vitro fertilisation programme or women with a repeated miscarriage history.
- Prenatal diagnosis
For some time now, couples expecting a child are able to know a lot about the child before birth: how is the heart beating, if it is a boy or a girl, approximate weight, etc. Science continues to advance through technology and it is important to highlight that, once more, both are at the disposal of healthcare, and at the disposal of expectant couples who await the arrival of a child. Prenatal diagnosis comprises all diagnostic tests performed during pregnancy in order to identify the presence of congenital defects in the foetus or maternal risk factors, that may call for strict controls throughout gestation. This type of diagnosis enables to foresee and adopt the most appropriate measures for both the child and the mother.
- Egg donation
This is a solution for patients who do not produce fertile oocytes. This is the technique where best results are obtained as the oocytes come from young and healthy donors. Similar to sperm donation, egg donation is done in an anonymous and altruistic manner.
- Fertility Preservation
This type of treatment allows people who wish or need to delay motherhood, to have children in the future employing assisted reproduction techniques. It is indicated for people who have to undergo medical treatments affecting their fertility, such as patients who are diagnosed with cancer. Also benefited from these techniques are women who decide to postpone the time for becoming mothers owing to other reasons, whether work, academics, etc. The fertility preservation treatments available at our centre include the cryopreservation of oocytes, embryos or sperm samples.
