Nowadays PCR tests have been chosen as the most effective way to diagnose patients with the new virus SARS-CoV-2. PCR tests are capable to detect the virus in its first stages of the infection. Spanish Health Authorities have decided to select PCR test as the most safe and effective one due to its fiability of almost 90%. The test is swabbed from the back of the nose and processed to isolate genetic material.

  • Essential characteristics of the service to be provided: Undertaking of the PCR or laboratory test for the diagnosis of the coronavirus – COVID-2019 (SARS-CoV-2). Molecular method based on the detection of the RNA of the SARS-CoV-2 virus by means of RT-PCR. At present, this is the leading technique for the diagnosis of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the early stages of the disease. Molecular detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is very specific; therefore, a positive test result confirms the detection of the virus. A negative result does not always mean absence of the virus, as it depends on the viral load of the sample. If a negative result­ is obtained from a patient in which there is a high suspicion of infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, that result should be confirmed with a new test. A nasopharyngeal sample is taken; thus, it is not necessary to go to the test on an empty stomach.
  • Payment terms: The day the PCR test is performed, you must pay the entire amount of the test. Payment can be in cash or by credit card.
  • Delivery of results: The results will be delivered within 24 hours from the time of the sample's extraction, provided the latter takes place from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at the Quirónsalud Polyclinic of Alicante and from Monday to Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at the Quironsalud Hospital of Torrevieja and the Quirónsalud Hospital of Murcia – except in the event of force majeure, a breakdown of the analysis equipment, or if there is a problem with the electricity supply. Results will be available on the Patient Portal. Likewise, notification will be made by SMS text message if the results are negative and by phone in the event they are positive, provided the patient has given consent for such notification.
  • Processing of complaints. In-person complaints are to be made through the medical center's Patient Care Service and complaints that are not made in person are to be lodged via the telephone number 901 500 501.
