Dr. Ferrández Sempere, began his career in 1989, studying Medicine and Surgery at the University of Navarra. Later he trained as a neurosurgeon at the University Hospital "Miguel Servet" of Zaragoza. His area of activity includes advanced techniques in spine surgery and pain.

He moved temporarily to Toronto Western Hospital, where he gained experience with deep brain stimulation procedures in the Department led by Dr. A.M. Lozano, world's highest authority in this field. Upon returning to Zaragoza he was the founder of the Parkinson's Surgery Unit at the "Miguel Servet" Hospital, which received the Aragoneses of the Year Award in Science in 2002.

During 2003 he began to practice two techniques never before performed in Spain: the minimally invasive spinal fusion surgery, presented at the V Congress of the Spanish Society of NeuroRaquis, in March 2005 and the implantation of spinal electrodes under spinal anesthesia. From that moment, he focused his attention completely on spinal surgery, improving techniques and designing individualized treatments based always on the principle of minimum aggressiveness for the patient. This includes vertebral deformity surgery, vertebral disc replacement techniques, both cervical and lumbar, percutaneous techniques (vertebroplasty, nucleoplasty) and new approaches to the spine through the minimally aggressive anterior or lateral approach.

Due to his extensive experience in the field of spine and pain, he has been selected by the large implant multinationals (Medtronic, Stryker, Johnson & Johnson, K2M, Aesculap, Boston Scientific, Synthes, Trans1, SpineNature) as an experimental surgeon and leader of opinion of diverse techniques, participating in numerous courses and congresses, as well as publications, resident training and training of other physicians in the new generation of surgical techniques for the back.
