Pediatric psychology deals with the study of the behavior of children from birth to adolescence, including their physical, cognitive, motor, linguistic, perceptual, social and emotional characteristics. Child psychologists try to explain the similarities and differences between children, as well as their behavior and development. Different methods to treat social, emotional and learning problems are also studied, applying therapies in the consultation and in the hospitalization plants. The two critical questions for child psychologists are:

  • determine how environmental variables (parent behavior, for example) and biological characteristics (such as genetic predispositions) interact and influence behavior.
  • understand how the different changes in the child's behavior interrelate.
